Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs)
Access to reliable, comparable data is key to making sustainable decisions. We believe that full transparency, from cradle to grave, drives innovation, builds trust, and fosters sustainability.
To truly understand environmental impacts and what’s needed for improvement, accurate data and meaningful comparisons are essential. However, many industries lack the necessary sustainability data, making it harder for companies to make informed decisions.
At Ecolean, our Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are part of our commitment to focusing on the entire life cycle of a product, not just the materials used. We provide transparent cradle-to-grave environmental data for both our packaging and filling machines.
An EPD transparently reports objective, comparable and third-party verified data about the environmental performance of a product or service from a life cycle perspective. An EPD is created and verified in accordance with the International Standard ISO 14025, developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). EPDs are based on a life cycle assessment according to ISO 14040 and ISO 14044.
The difference between an EPD and a life cycle assessment
An EPD is a life cycle assessment (LCA) with defined system boundaries. The definition of the system boundaries are found in a Product Category Rules (PCR) document. The fact that EPDs within the same product category follow the same PCR create opportunities for comparison between different EPDs. Since the system boundaries in a LCA are established by the producer of the LCA, the results can be difficult to compare.
An EPD is created and registered in the framework of a programme, such as the International EPD® System. You can find Ecolean EPDs at www.environdec.com.
